Take Flight
Paperplanes gives you art experiences in a book. It’s art that doesn’t hang on your wall but becomes alive in your fingertips, as you flip through prompts, playful activities, essays, and poetry to inspire joy, hope, and community building.
The Story
I’m Alejandro. When I was a kid, my cousins and I created a newspaper with hand-drawn, made-up articles and illustrations and forced our aunts and uncles to read it. Since then, I’ve been wanting to publish my own grown-up publication (although the playfulness remains). So here is Paperplanes: a mix of my art, writing, design, and community engagement experiments.
Echoing artist Claes Oldenburg, I want to make art that does more than sit on its ass in a museum, or a gallery, or even on your own wall. I want to make art that takes flight between your fingers and lands into your heart and shakes the dust off; art that you can touch, rip, take with you for a stroll, air out or hide inside your pocket; art so in your life that you accidentally drip mustard or salsa or tears or sweat or despair on; art that makes you laugh, dream, wonder and wander; art that moves you, that if you are feeling despair it takes you to a different plane of hope.
I hope you enjoy the experiences!
